week 17

Always think positive and make things right!
Week 17( 3-5)

My accomplishments
I taught one lesson this week my topic is about “The sampaguita by Natividad Marquez”. I helped my critic teacher in making her instructional materials for her enrichment activities. My partner and I helped her in her instructional materials on infinitive phrases. I also recorded the scores of our students about the logo making and affixes.

My significant experience
This week is so tiring and full of stress. My critic teacher is very a blessing to us she will always a find way to make us busy. For two consecutive days, we make her instructional materials for day one we use our own money and for day, two she gave but it’s not enough to buy materials.

My insights
As a teacher, we must be sensible enough to the feelings of our students, co teachers and others. We must be organize and know our own responsibilities in school. We must go to school early and do the things at the exact time.

My problem
Our critic teacher is always late that’s why we don’t know if she’s aware of the announcements. She always gave us things to do even though were not yet done with the, other task that she gave.

My solution
We just follow her commands and make things right. Always think positive because this is a part of training.

My goals for next week
-to do well in my rated demonstration with my supervising instructor
-to teach even though were done with our 10 rated demonstrations
-to enjoy teaching

week 16

I’m tired
Week 16( 24-28)
My accomplishments

I taught one lesson this week about logo. I record some outputs of our students. I facilitated our students during their logo making. I scored also their logos. We helped our critic teacher in processing the forms for official business.

My significant experiences
Processing the form for official business makes me cry. My partner and I are so tired after we processed the forms. For 13 students that we wrote to attend the PDEA talk only one student attended it’s because they have quiz and they don’t want to give up their quiz.  Other students have other official business too. While I am facilitating the advisory class of my critic for the logo making, they are very noisy and they don’t want to listen to me. Some of the girls are also impolite. We tried not to smile for them to reflect in their actions but they cannot reflect they just want to talk and talk.

My insight
I just realize that being serious and not smiling to the students even though they are the worst section is not a good strategy. Thanks for ma’am Shirley because I realized and I learned from her that we must put in our mind to spread positivity. I really feel sorry to my students and my critic teacher for that strategy that I used.

My problems
I don’t know if our critic teacher felt that we are almost tired because of the form that she gave us to process. We didn’t even have our breakfast and we didn’t eat during the recess time just to process that. I also had a problem with her advisory class they are very noisy even if she is the one who is handling her advisory.

My solutions
We just follow the task that our critic teacher is telling us. For the students we adapt the strategy being serious in class but it is not applicable.

week 15

I’m so productive
Week 15(17-21)

My accomplishments
I taught two lessons this week about Song of the Flower and affixes. I facilitated during the spelling bee, poem writing, and essay writing. I also facilitated during the cleaning time of our class.

My significant experience
Last Friday the advisory class of our critic teacher had their recollection therefore we had to teach the other class of our critic teacher. I am so nervous upon seeing the substitute of our critic teacher her face is very strict. While we are about to enter the class she instructed us that she will give first reminders because that class is known as the very worst section. She is very strict in giving guidelines, we are shocked because all of them are silent. When we are about to discuss they are very participative and actively listening to the topic. They are participative by giving their own examples on affixes. It feels good if you know that students had learn a lot from you.

My insights
Classroom management is very important for us teachers. We must know how to handle our students even if they are the very worst section. It is very helpful for the both teachers and students if the class is listening attentively. If the class is managed well then the flow of discussion is good.

My problem
While discussing my lesson I ask my students to give their own examples of a word that has a suffix ending in er/or. All of them give their own examples but one student caught my attention his example is “emperador” I don’t know how to process his example.


My solution
Since we are team teaching with my partner, I ask her helped. We ask the root word of “emperador” some of them are giving root words. We processed by telling them that it has no root word because it is just a brand of a liquor.

Goals for next week

To helped our critic teacher for the logo making of our students. To give more interactive activities that would enhance the skills of our students.

week 14

Week 14(10-14)
My accomplishments

I taught one lesson this week. I helped my critic teacher in checking the journal notebooks, poems, ant the essay of our students.  I also finished recording some of the performance and quizzes of our students. It was also an accomplishment giving instructions for the cleaners.

My significant experiences

Sometimes it’s just right to commit mistake because through this you can learn a lot. I feel embarrassed after my lesson it’s because I mispronounced the word “customer” two times. It was a great experienced to facilitate students in their cleaning time. I feel like a real teacher by giving instructions for those cleaners and by telling them to clean properly.
My insights

I learned a lot during our recollection like do not let other people affect your happiness. As a human being, I must enjoy life I must imbibe positive thoughts. In order to become a great teacher I must adapt all the positive learning’s in life. I will spread positivity’s to my students.

 My problems
I had a problem in disciplining my students especially the boys. They are not listening during discussion. Giving group activities is also my problem some of them are not participating.

Solution
I made my rules using emoticons if they are noisy they will get minus 5, 15, and 20. My strategy worked because some of them are grade conscious.

Goals for next week
-give more interactive activities
-I’ll make sure that my students will participate actively.

week 13

Don’t give up
Week 13( 5-7)
My accomplishments

I’m happy that I taught 3 lessons this week. I helped my critic teacher in checking the journal notebooks, poems, quiz # 2.2 and alphabetizing the quiz papers. We peer checked our evaluation forms. I submitted my minute notebook and folder. I also considered being early as my accomplishment.

My significant experiences
I’m nervous and excited to see my new students. I observed that some of the classes are passive therefore, I must plan strategies in order for them to participate actively. While I am teaching, some of them are noisy and not listening. I want to quit and let them do whatever they want but my mind is strong. No matter how disrespectful they are, I must do my duty as their teacher.

My insight
Being a teacher is not easy we must have long patience even if some students are noisy. Don’t give up in valuing them, time will come and they will realize that they are wrong.

My problem
I had a problem in classroom management. They keep on talking with their classmates and not listening during discussion. Some students are not respectful.

My solution
I set rules in my class such as noise is allowed if it is educational noise, respect begets respect and be responsible. In order for them to participate in my discussion, I let them evaluate the performance of their classmate.

My goal for next week
-to teach five lessons
-enjoy teaching

week 12

1st week at Lab High!
Week 12( 27-30)

My accomplishments

I accomplished helping my group mates in designing our area at the attic. It is also an accomplishment on my part to be early in school. I helped my critic teacher in checking the poem of our students. I also accomplished writing my narrative report about learning experiences, insights and suggestions to my previous critic teacher.

My significant experiences
Writing my narrative report is a good way to express my feelings and learning’s at Baguio city national high school-main campus. We are tasked to facilitate some classes. I am assigned to facilitate 8 mapagkaisa I observed how they talk to their classmate and how they approach me. It is really a challenge to handle them.

Insights
I shared my ideas on how to beautify our area at the attic. I wrote suggestions for my previous critic teacher. As I observed the class of my critic teacher, they are noisy and some of them are not listening. I need to plan an effective strategy to get the attention of my students.

Problem
I keep on thinking if who will be my critic teacher.

Solution
I’m always praying that my critic teacher is also nice.

Farewell
Week 11( 20-24)
My accomplishment
I accomplished the 30 lessons. I finished my extension at the library. I facilitated during the item analysis of our students. I helped my critic teacher in her instructional material. I also considered being early in school as my accomplishment.

My significant experience
I enjoyed the remaining days with my students. They surprised me during my last day by giving their letters. I appreciated their presents to me. Reading those letters makes me cry and just stay with them. I cried when I said goodbye to my critic teacher because I don’t want leave her. She’s not just a critic teacher to me, she’s also my motivator, best friend, sister and my inspiration to become a better teacher.

My insight
Being a teacher is eternal blessing. If you’re a good teacher your students will not forget you.

My problem
I had a hard time on thinking the prize that I will give to my students.

Solution
I bought lollipop and I wrote   a message “thank you very much”.

Goals for next week
-observe good attitude in laboratory high school
-obey the rules
- being respectful to the teachers, staffs and to my co practicumers & observers

week 10

Tired but fulfilling
Week 10(13-17)
My accomplishments

I taught 3 lessons this week. I checked late travelogues and posters of my students. I helped my critic teacher in facilitating our students during their examination. I recheck and alpabetized the test papers of our students. It was also an accomplishment to be early in school.

My significant experience
I felt good when one of my students say sorry using sign language because her classmates were very noisy.  I’m happy for my students who passed their examination and I’m sad for those who did not passed. I’m happy because I taught 3 lessons.

My insight
Always think positive, being angry inside the classroom cannot help me. I always put that statement in my mind whenever some of my students are very noisy.

My problem
I captured the cellphone of my student because he is playing while others are answering their exam. He cried when I surrendered it to the teacher. The teacher asked him to call his parents and he keeps on crying I felt guilty during that time.

My solution
I said to him that next time don’t use your phones during class hours.

My goal for next week

Enjoy the last week of teaching in Baguio city national high school.

week 9

Good job!
Week 9(7-11)
My accomplishments
I taught eight lessons this week including the Saturday class. Lucky for me that some of my class were delayed that’s why I taught different lessons. I also facilitated during their summative test. I also helped my critic teacher in giving score during the performance and scoring their final task on poster making.

My experience
Last Tuesday I asked my students to give a sentence using embedded clause. One of my students shared his example “My mother, who’s very angry, always fighting my uncle.”  While he is saying that sentence, I can feel and see his emotion. He’s face is sad and I feel pity on him. I am also happy that one of my students gave me a chocolate yesterday.

My insight
Not all students are showy in their problems. I observed that in one of my class, I have a student who is very jolly, sweet and always smiling I concluded that he is very hyperactive. However, when he shared his sentence it caught my attention, maybe there’s something in him.

My problem
There are 8 more lessons I need to accomplish to finish my 30 lessons.

My solution
I will ask the help of my critic teacher to finish my 30 lessons.

My goal for next week

Enjoy teaching for the remaining two weeks.

week 8

I feel bad
(Week 8: 29-3)
My accomplishment
I feel great that I taught five lessons this week. These are the lessons I taught: Review on (wedding dance, verb complements, primary and secondary sources), Baby in the Bottle, Irony, paradox, oxymoron, hyperbole, litotes and sentence structures. I helped my critic teacher in scoring the interpretative dance of our students. I also guide the student teacher for the day in the classroom.

My experience
I feel bad that I experienced teaching my lesson without mastering the concept. Some of my students were not participating because I did not present the topic well. I really feel bad and sorry for my students.

My insight
In order for me to discuss the baby in the bottle in an easy way, I prepared an activity in which the students will pick one object inside the box and relate it in the story.

My problem
I got a hard time on thinking how am I going to discuss my topic within 40 minutes.

Solution
I just present the topic in an easy way by citing more examples and letting my students give their own examples.

Goal for next week
My goal for next week is to master my lessons that I am going to teach.

week 7

Rated Demo
( Week 6: 22-26)

My accomplishments
It’s a blessing for me that I’m done in my rated demonstration. I taught three lessons this week about wedding dance, direct and indirect object and verb complements. I finished checking the travelogue of my students. I also finished checking the essays of my students.

My experience
I am a little bit nervous when I executed my rated demonstration lesson. I thought my students will not participate but I was shocked because they did their best even though some of their answers were not exact. I really appreciate them because they listen to me attentively. I really feel good when I used the strategy called transfer and apply in which the students will write the concepts that they’ve learned after that they are going to write the application of that concepts in their daily life experience. I feel good because they were able to share their unique ideas.

My insight
For my students to participate in my discussion I used them as my examples. I also used scenario’s for example what I you go home and your parent asked you “ Anak what did you learned in your English class? How are you going to use it here?

My problem
I got a problem in preparing my lesson on the topic The Wedding Dance. My problem is that 3 of my sections doesn’t have tv in their classrooms. I also had a problem while preparing the lesson that I am going to execute in my rated demonstration.

Solution
My critic teacher helped me, she borrowed projector in order for my students to watch the video clip on wedding dance. I asked the help of my critic teacher because I’m a little bit confused in my lesson.

I will prepare my lesson well.

week 6

Week 6 (16-19)
Learning styles of my students

My accomplishments

I taught two lessons this week about analogy and primary & secondary sources. It’s an accomplishment that my students learned I facilitated three sections in taking their summative test. I also helped my critic teacher in facilitating the final task our students on their travelogue.

My experiences

Having the experience of teaching 3 sections with one strategy helps me a lot. I therefore conclude that in every section I must vary my strategy based on their learning styles. I’m happy that in one of my class they are son active and excited because of the game I prepared. They had a debate on the material that they are going to identify. It’s not my plan to have a debate in my class but there are lot of ideas came out form them that’s why I let them express their unique ideas. I am so happy that some of them understand my lesson. In my 2nd and 3rd class the strategy did not work well because I need to explain more and give more examples for them to understand the lesson well.

My insight

Knowing the learning styles of my students gives me ideas on how to prepare activities that is suited to them. I will prepare the enrichment activities in a form of games. I will give more examples that is related to their daily life experience.

My problem

I had a problem in settling my students some of them are standing, chatting with their friends, and doing something that’s not related on our subject matter.

Solution

In order for my students to settle down what I did was I waited for some students to keep quiet. After getting their attention, I instructed them on their summative test.

Goal for next week

My goal is to vary my strategy based on their ability and capability.

week 5

(September 8-12)

Unending learning’s
My accomplishment          
Joining the training program about Boy Scout of the Philippines is an accomplishment for me because I learned a lot about scouting such as: history of scouting, ideals of scouting (scout oath, scout law, scout motto, scout sign, scout salute), leadership in scouting, activities in scouting, and organization for scouting. Executing one lesson on analogy and its type is also a fulfillment on my part. I also had done checking the papers of my students.

My significant experience

This week is meaningful to me because of the training on scouting. I feel excited during the activities because it’s my first time to join scouting. The activities were the following: knot tying, flag code, first aid/ bandaging, measurement, and compass. We were taught on how to use the flag of the Philippines, how to fold it and how to bury if it is already damage. We were taught on how to put bandages in different injuries. We were taught how to find locations using compass. We were taught on how to measure the height of a tree without using any materials. We were also taught on how to tie a knot/ rope. Being a loser during our activity makes us feels good because the important is we enjoyed very much. 

My insight
While listening to the discussion on scouting there are many insights I learned such as how to use scout sign, how to recite the scout oath and law. We were asked to think of sea animal on our patrol name so we shared our ideas and we come up with alimango/crab group. We were tasked to make our own yell per group so we brainstorm. While making my lesson on analogy and its type I come up with an activity called using senses.

My problems
During my lesson on analogy, I had a problem on my instructional materials because it keeps on falling. Because of nervousness, I failed during my activity in forming the jumbled letters to form a word and reveal the topic. My problem is that I state first my objective that’s why they easily formed the word. In one of my class, there are group of boys and two girls who were not listening during my discussion they keep on laughing. I always get their attention but they are hard headed that’s why out my anger I asked one student to stand and answer my question. I asked him in an appropriate manner but after that, I feel sorry to him.

Solutions
In order for my materials not to fall, I asked the help of my friend by borrowing illustration board because my board is not that hard. In one of my class, I let the two girls who were not listening to transfer their chairs in front in order not to join those boys at the back.

Goals for next week

I’ll see to it that my students will get higher scores during activities. I’ll make sure to give different activities for them to participate actively and I’ll see to it that all of them will listen to by making rules.

week 4

Tiring yet feel blessed
Week 4
( September 2-5)
My accomplishment

This week was so tiring yet I feel blessed because I executed two lessons about How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife and Enrichment activities of the story. I helped my critic teacher in facilitating our students. It was an accomplishment for me to discipline well my students. It was also an accomplishment for me to search about biblical and educational quotes to be posted in the classroom.

My significant experience

I’m happy that I was able to execute my lesson without anxiety. I’m glad that my students participated well during my discussion they were able to give answers and help other students who cannot answer the question I asked.  

My insights

While doing my lesson plan about How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife I think of an activity that my students can really relate with by using local colors, relating their experiences on how they treat people who’s from provinces and city. I planned to use video clips on my lesson but if there is no current, my plan B is to let them arrange the events from the story. For the enrichment activity about How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife I use different activities for them to understand well the discussion

My problem

My critic teacher gave me the lesson How my brother leon brought home a wife my problem is how am I going to teach that long story. My students might not understand and they might not read it as a reading assignment. I did not check my materials before going in my second class that’s why they were not able to use whiteboard markers. I feel bad because of my stupidity some of my students were not able to participate well. Another problem is that I expected too much with my students in one of my class I thought they’ve read the reading assignment that I gave but only few read it. Using laptop for watching the video clips that I prepared served as a problem to me because some of my students can’t watch it well because of the light and the screen is not enough for them to see it.

Solution

Luckily, I ask the help of my critic teacher and she was very kind because she think of a strategy that my students will really read that story. She list questions and ask my students to answer it that’s why during my discussion they were able to participate though there are some students who did not read. It’s good that I prepared a video clips about the story that I am going to discuss for the students who did not read for them to understand what I’m talking about. Instead of using marker and white boards, as a solution I instructed my students to bring out one whole sheet of paper and their pen to use it in the activity. As a solution about the video clips, I instructed my students to listen attentively to the dialogues that the characters are talking about.

My goals:
-is to listen and participate actively for the Boy scout training of the Philippines
-to execute my lesson about analogy using new strategy

Mixed Emotions



My accomplishment
I accomplished 1 lesson this week. I helped my co practicumers in their instructional materials. I also helped my critic teacher in checking the quiz papers of her students. 

My experience   
       
I have a mix emotion this week I feel blessed, excited, nervous, happy and tired. I feel blessed because we were deployed at Baguio City National High School. I feel excited to handle and teach my students. I feel nervous if who is going to be my critic teacher and what year am I going to teach. I’m happy that  my critic teacher is nice and she’s handling grade 7 students. I am fortunate that my critic teacher had given me a chance to observe her class in order for me to know their behavior. To have an idea on how to handle her students and for me to know what strategies I am going to use for them to be disciplined.  I am glad that my critic teacher gave me a lesson that I am going to execute. I feel nervous and at the same time, I feel blessed in that day because some of my students were listening during my discussion. I feel nervous because it’s my first time to teach them. 

My insight

While observing the class of my critic teacher I’m thinking of strategies on how to handle them because some of them were noisy and not participating especially the boys. Therefore, I come up with a strategy that if I am going to give a group activity I will distribute the boys and see to it that they will participate actively.

My problem

During the activity, some of my students were noisy and they keep on standing. Some boys were not participating during the group activity.

Solution

What I did in order for my students to keep quiet is that I look at them seriously and ask them if there is any problem. I always remind them to minimize their noise and maintain discipline.

Goals for next week

Be confident but not too much. I’ll make sure that all my students will participate in my discussion.
